About This Book
Richard (Dick) Wieler was left permanently and almost totally
paralyzed after being stricken with polio in 1955. His physician
warned his parents that the Nebraska farmboy would be homebound
and totally dependent upon their care for the rest of his
life.
Despite
what appeared to be insurmountable obstacles, Dick finished
high school, college and law school. He also learned to live
independently and became self-supporting.
Richard
Wieler and Maureen O’Halloran Clark have collaborated
to write "Chasing Normality: With a Little Help from
Family & Friends." Dick writes this memoir to pay
tribute to the many people who helped him along the way, including
a school superintendent, who homeschooled him using the Socratic
Method, and his extended family, who devised an incredible
plan for him to attend college. He hopes his story will encourage
others who face their own difficulties.
BOOK
UPDATE: Richard Wieler and his family have formed
